Speaking during a high-level meeting with party stakeholders and members of the National Working Committee, Tinubu stressed the need for peaceful conduct, consensus-building and fair play throughout the primary election process, insisting that the APC must remain united and focused on strengthening its electoral chances across the country.
The President urged aspirants, party leaders and delegates to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambition, noting that unhealthy rivalry, bitterness and post-primary disputes could weaken the APC’s structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Tinubu emphasized that while competition is a natural part of democracy, all party members must embrace maturity, mutual respect and political tolerance during the selection of candidates for various elective positions.
He maintained that the APC leadership would ensure a transparent and credible process capable of producing candidates acceptable to party members and the wider electorate.
According to him, consensus arrangements should be pursued where necessary and where they enjoy broad acceptance among stakeholders, adding that such agreements must be reached through dialogue, fairness and consultation rather than imposition.
The President further cautioned against acts of intimidation, manipulation and divisive politics, warning that the party would not tolerate conduct capable of undermining its unity or reputation.
He called on governors, ministers, lawmakers and other influential figures within the APC to serve as stabilizing forces by promoting reconciliation and cooperation among supporters and aspirants.
Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance and fulfilling campaign promises, stating that the APC’s success in future elections would largely depend on its ability to maintain internal cohesion and sustain public confidence.
Party insiders disclosed that the meeting focused heavily on strategies for avoiding the internal crises that have affected several political parties in previous election cycles, with the President reportedly stressing that all aggrieved members should be given a fair hearing through established party mechanisms.
Political observers believe Tinubu’s latest intervention is aimed at preventing factional conflicts and preserving unity within the APC as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum across the country.
