BREAKING: Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reportedly led a major faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into a strategic political alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in what observers describe as one of the most significant political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development comes amid growing uncertainty within the PDP over internal leadership disputes, zoning controversies, and mounting concerns about the party’s preparedness for the next presidential election.

Sources within the opposition camp revealed that the alliance discussions intensified in recent weeks following a series of high-level consultations involving influential political stakeholders, party loyalists, and regional power brokers across the country.

Governor Makinde, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures within the PDP’s younger generation of leaders, is said to have formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the emerging coalition arrangement.

His reported declaration is already generating widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape, with supporters describing the move as a bold attempt to reposition the opposition and provide an alternative political direction for the country.

According to insiders familiar with the negotiations, the alliance between the PDP faction and APM is expected to focus on strengthening opposition unity, expanding grassroots mobilisation, and building a broader national platform capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.

The coalition is also believed to be targeting dissatisfied members within major political parties who may be willing to defect ahead of the election cycle.

Political analysts say Makinde’s growing national profile, coupled with his influence in the South-West and his perceived moderate leadership style, could make him a formidable contender in the race for the presidency.

His administration in Oyo State has frequently been highlighted by supporters as a model of infrastructural renewal, fiscal reforms, and governance-driven politics.

While official confirmation from the PDP national leadership remains limited, the reported alliance has already intensified conversations about possible defections, fresh coalition talks, and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.

Several party chieftains are expected to hold emergency consultations in the coming days as tensions continue to rise within the PDP over the unfolding political developments.

Observers believe the latest move could significantly reshape the political calculations ahead of 2027, especially if other opposition blocs eventually align with the emerging coalition championed by Governor Makinde and his allies.
