The strike, which is expected to significantly affect medical services across government-owned hospitals and health institutions in the state, was announced by the leadership of the doctors’ association after an emergency meeting held to address growing concerns over the safety and welfare of healthcare professionals.
According to the association, the industrial action became necessary after EFCC operatives reportedly stormed a medical facility in the state in a manner described as “violent, intimidating, and unacceptable,” allegedly assaulting healthcare workers and disrupting medical activities.
The doctors condemned the operation, insisting that hospitals and medical personnel should not be subjected to harassment or brutality under any circumstance.
The association accused the anti-graft agency’s operatives of violating professional and human rights standards, stressing that the incident has created fear and tension among health workers across the state. They maintained that until decisive action is taken against those responsible, doctors would withdraw their services indefinitely.
Among their key demands are the immediate identification and prosecution of the EFCC officers involved in the raid, a public apology to affected medical personnel, and assurances from both federal and state authorities that healthcare facilities will be protected from future invasions by security agencies.
Medical practitioners warned that the continued silence or failure of relevant authorities to address the matter could worsen the already fragile healthcare system in the state, as patients may face serious challenges accessing medical care during the strike period.
The doctors further called on the Federal Government, the management of the EFCC, civil society groups, and professional bodies to intervene urgently to prevent further escalation of the crisis and restore confidence within the medical community.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
