The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a formal ultimatum to.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, granting him a period of seven days to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the alleged disappearance of ₦2.9 billion from two key government agencies—the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).
In its statement, SERAP expressed deep concern over the reported financial discrepancies, emphasizing that such allegations, if left unaddressed, could further erode public trust in government institutions and undermine ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
The organization called on President Tinubu to demonstrate strong political will by directing relevant anti-corruption agencies to promptly and transparently probe the matter, identify those responsible, and ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken.
SERAP further stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in the management of public funds, noting that the alleged missing sum represents a significant loss to the nation, particularly at a time when economic challenges continue to impact millions of Nigerians.
The group also urged the administration to recover any misappropriated funds and implement stricter financial oversight mechanisms to prevent future occurrences.
Highlighting Nigeria’s obligations under both domestic laws and international anti-corruption conventions, SERAP warned that failure to act within the stipulated timeframe may compel the organization to pursue legal action to enforce accountability.
The call adds to growing pressure on the federal government to address concerns surrounding public sector financial management and reinforce its commitment to good governance.
