Paris Club Refund Controversy: Despite Previous Payments Under Buhari, Ned Nwoko Collaborates With AGF Fagbemi in Pursuit of Fresh $396 Million Claim Under Tinubu Administration

The long-standing controversy surrounding the Paris Club refund has resurfaced with renewed intensity, as fresh claims emerge despite substantial payments reportedly made during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

At the center of the latest development is lawyer and politician Ned Nwoko, who has once again taken a prominent role in the ongoing financial dispute.

Reports indicate that Nwoko is now working in collaboration with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, to facilitate the disbursement of an additional $396 million allegedly tied to consultancy services related to the Paris Club debt recovery.

This move has sparked widespread debate and scrutiny, particularly given that previous administrations had approved and disbursed significant sums to consultants and stakeholders involved in the process.
Critics argue that the renewed claim raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the possibility of duplicate payments within Nigeria’s public finance system.

Many observers are calling for a thorough audit of all payments connected to the Paris Club refunds to ensure that public funds are not mismanaged or unjustifiably disbursed.

Supporters of the claim, however, maintain that the additional amount reflects outstanding obligations that were not fully settled in earlier disbursements.

They argue that due process is being followed and that all legitimate contractual agreements should be honored, regardless of previous payments.

As the Tinubu administration navigates this complex issue, the development underscores broader concerns about governance, fiscal responsibility, and the need for clear documentation in government financial dealings.

With public attention intensifying, stakeholders are urging the government to provide clarity and uphold the highest standards of accountability in resolving the matter.
