The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred fresh political discourse with a bold declaration that the two dominant political parties in Rivers State—the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—have effectively aligned as one political family under the leadership vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during a recent engagement with political stakeholders, Wike asserted that traditional party divisions in Rivers State are no longer relevant, urging political actors and supporters to embrace what he described as a unified front driven by the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

“In Rivers State, APC and PDP have already collapsed into one family—the Renewed Hope family. I don’t want to hear again, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ What matters now is that we are working together as one people committed to progress,” Wike stated.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that the focus should shift away from partisan identity toward collective support for policies and programs aimed at delivering tangible development outcomes.

According to him, unity across party lines is essential to achieving meaningful progress, particularly in critical areas such as infrastructure, employment, and public service delivery.

Wike further asserted his continued influence over the political landscape in Rivers State, suggesting that he retains substantial control of grassroots and institutional structures within the state.

His remarks are widely interpreted as a strategic move to consolidate political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, where cross-party collaboration could significantly shape electoral outcomes.

Rivers State, historically regarded as a stronghold of the PDP, has in recent times experienced notable political shifts, largely stemming from an ongoing rift between Wike and the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The deepening divide has redefined political alignments within the state, creating an environment where traditional party loyalties are increasingly fluid.

Analysts suggest that Wike’s call for a unified “Renewed Hope” coalition reflects a broader realignment strategy, aimed at bridging partisan divides while strengthening support for the Tinubu administration at both the state and national levels.

Proponents argue that such an approach could reduce political tensions and foster a more collaborative governance environment.

Critics, however, remain cautious, questioning the long-term implications for party identity, internal democracy, and the balance of power within the state.

Despite his transition to a federal role as FCT Minister, Wike continues to wield considerable influence in Rivers State politics, positioning himself as a central figure in the evolving political equation.

His latest remarks are expected to trigger varied reactions from political stakeholders, including party leaders, elected officials, and grassroots supporters.

As developments continue to unfold, observers will be closely monitoring how this emerging political alignment impacts governance, party structures, and electoral strategies in the lead-up to 2027.

More updates are expected as key actors respond to this significant political development.
