Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor of Kano State, has officially resigned from his post, effective immediately on March 27, 2026. The resignation was confirmed by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, who stated that the letter had been formally delivered to Governor Abba Yusuf's office.
In his resignation letter, addressed to the Governor and made available to the media, Gwarzo cited Article 306(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He described the decision as voluntary, aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and good governance in the state, without unnecessary distractions. He emphasized that this move reflects statesmanship and not an admission of guilt.
This comes amid reported political tensions, including an impeachment motion by the Kano State Legislative Assembly and ongoing friction within state political circles. Some reports link the resignation to allegations of serious misconduct and doubts about his loyalty, though Gwarzo's team has presented it as a move taken in the best interests of the state and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
As of Friday night, the state government had not released further details about the reasons for the resignation or the next steps regarding the vice-governor's position.
